A Level Biology & Chemistry

Online, one to one £40/hr

Live on video with a shared whiteboard. Notes and marked work sent after every lesson.

In person, one to one £50/hr

At your home, locally in [your town and surrounding area]. Covers travel, so there is no separate charge.

Small group £30/hr each

Two to Ten students at a similar level, working through the same topic. The lowest cost per student.

You are paying for the planning, not just the hour.

No A Level exam rewards knowledge alone. Able students lose marks on command words, extended six-markers, required practicals and calculation layout rather than on the science itself.

Between lessons I mark past paper questions against the real mark scheme, track which topics keep costing marks, and plan the next session around them. That preparation is included in the hourly rate.

A free 30 minute call, parent to tutor. I will ask where your child is now, what grade they are aiming for and when their exams fall, then tell you honestly what I think the gap is and how long it takes to close.

You speak to the tutor, not a sales team. I am the person who would teach your child.
You leave with a clear next step, including which topics to target first, whether or not you book lessons with me.
No pressure and no lock-in. If I am not the right fit, I will say so on the call.

Students are welcome on the call too. It often helps to hear directly from them which topics feel worst. Afternoon,Evening and weekend slots are available.

Is the consultation really free?

Yes. It is a 30 minute call with me, at no cost and with no obligation to book lessons. I will ask about your child's current grade, target grade and exam dates, then give you my honest view of what needs work first.

If I do not think tutoring is what your child needs right now, I will say so.

How much do lessons cost?

Online one to one is £35 per hour. In person, at your home locally, is £50 per hour and includes travel. Small group lessons work out cheaper per student.

You pay week to week. There is no package to buy upfront and no minimum number of lessons.

Which subjects and levels do you teach?

AS and A Level Biology and Chemistry only, across AQA, OCR and Edexcel. Teaching two subjects rather than ten is deliberate: it means I know the specifications, the mark schemes and the common traps in detail.

Are you DBS checked?

Yes, I hold an enhanced DBS check and I am happy to show the certificate before the first lesson, whether we work online or in person.

For in-person lessons a parent or guardian is welcome to be in the house throughout, and for online lessons you are welcome to sit in on the first session.

Is online tutoring as effective as in person?

For A Level Biology and Chemistry, yes. We use a shared whiteboard so your child sees every diagram, mechanism and calculation being built up, and they keep the notes afterwards.

Some students focus better with someone in the room, which is why in person is offered locally. We can talk through which suits your child on the call.

What happens in a typical lesson?

We start with the topic your child is currently struggling with, work through the theory until they can explain it back, then apply it to real past paper questions under exam conditions.

Between lessons I mark the questions they attempt against the official mark scheme, so the next session targets whatever cost them marks.

How often should we have lessons, and can we cancel?

Most students do one hour a week per subject, increasing in the run-up to mocks and finals. We can adjust as exams get closer.

There is no contract. If you need to stop, pause over a holiday or change your slot, just let me know in advance.

How do we stay in touch between lessons?
